Lt. Col. Mark Mellott

Biography

LTC Mark Mellott is a medical information systems officer with a PhD in Policy Studies from Clemson University with 22 years of Army service.  He is currently assigned as the Execution Branch Chief for the Innovation and Advanced Technology Development Division for Health IT, at the Defense Health Agency. He has published research on increasing the usage and quality of deployed electronic medical records.  He also investigates how to leverage technology to improve health and wellness among Service Members, Veterans, and their Beneficiaries.

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency that supports the delivery of integrated, affordable, and high quality health services to the Military Health System’s beneficiaries. This presentation will highlight the activities underway at the DHA that are helping to shape and achieve a premier system of health IT, enabling integrated healthcare delivery for those who serve in the defense of our country, retirees, and their families. Specifically, hear about how DHA is using the MHS’ open-source data analytics tool to plan for the investment and implementation of the technologies that will help close functional gaps to increase readiness, provide better health and care, and lower costs.
